When I was around 7 or so, Mean Girls came out and I didn’t really understand it that much, but still liked it. So when Regina was talking about Janice and saying how she was a lesbian, I thought that meant she was Lebanese. So when we got home, I asked my mom “Am I a lesbian?” (since my dad’s relatives are from Lebanon), and she was like “WHAT” and I said “Well, daddy and grandma are lesbian, so am I?” and she laughed and said, “Oh, no honey, daddy’s part of the family is lebaNESE.” And I was like “Ohhh. Ok! Then what’s a lesbian?” So she explained that it was a girl who liked other girls more instead of boys. I still didn’t really get it, since at the time, lot of girls seemed to have more friends that were girls than guys.
